Community Forest Coalition Fall Meeting

Join the Northwest Community Forest Coalition this October for two days in Montesano, Washington.
The Coalition’s Fall Meeting will consist of a site visit to the Montesano Community Forest and neighboring Lake Sylvia State Park, along with a half-day of meetings and presentations on relevant community forest management topics. This event is hosted in Partnership with the City of Montesano.
The agenda will focus on how community forest management models can support local timber economies and where cross-boundary management between private and public landowners supports common forest health goals.
The Full Agenda Includes:
October 21: A site visit to the Montesano City Forest, highlighting how a community forest can optimize the property for forest revenue, while maintaining recreational opportunities and managing for ecological outcomes, including water availability and priority species habitats.
October 22:
A panel discussing investments in the Local Wood Economy Through Contractors, Small-Scale Mills, and Lumber Sourcing.
Including perspectives from the Jefferson Timber Cooperative and the City of Montesano and Sustainable Northwest’s Wood Markets Program.
Presentations on examples of cross-boundary land management practices being leveraged by community forests and coalition partners. This will include the following perspectives:
Chelan County, and the co-management around forest health treatments taking place in the Semilt Squilchuck Community Forest.
The Nature Conservancy, and their co-management of forestland in Western Washington, including the Ellsworth Creek and Clearwater Forest Reserves.
An update regarding Coalition-wide advocacy efforts.
A highlight around current and upcoming funding opportunities within the region.
